Why You Can’t Just Snap Out of Depression

Why You Can’t Just Snap Out of Depression

When I was 12 years old, my maternal grandfather committed suicide.

By that age, I had already struggled with anorexia and severe feelings of self-loathing.  At 16, my depressive cycles were just my depressed years.  I even once had a best friend break up with me, because she said I wallowed in too much self-pity.  I did not believe I had a problem.

Maybe, I was in denial. Maybe, I didn’t want my…

Here are some products that I am trying this week as I get back on my meal plan and working out after a knee re-injury and battle with the Chikungunya Virus.

I gained 9 lbs over a month and a half and lost a lot of my muscle definition. I am post-poning my NPC competition until further notice. Right now, I am still healing as my joints still hurt. I went back to the gym yesterday and my lung capacity is not what it used to be. The virus keeps me very fatigued. Now, I honestly ate a bunch of crap while I was sick because it was hard to even move. Now, I am working on getting my meal plan back in order and slowly getting back on my 6-day a week training routine.

There will be bumps on the road to personal success. It’s okay to get off path. Just get back on.

Your mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health are more important than any external success.

One day at a time, I will compete in a #bikini competition.

HEALTH ADVISORY:

#Fitfam and #Travelers, beware of #chikungunya virus!

I spent 2 weeks in #PuertoRico and returned home with this painful #virus.

I believe I contracted the virus while staying at Casa del Sol in #Luquillo as my mother and 2 workers there also caught the virus.

Please be sure to sleep with netting and cover yourself when out.

This virus is spread by the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, which tend to be present in homes and breed in buckets of water, stagnant ponds and pools.

Chikungunya Virus Development for Me:

Day 1: Massive headache. Sensitivity to light.

Day 2: Headache + Fever, chills, severe joint pain all over the body.

Day 3: Chills. Constantly cold and then hot and then cold. Light headed. Altered vision. Some alleviation in joint pain, except for fingers, wrists, knees, soles of feet, and toes. Pain is most severe in sites with prior injuries. Developed rash in hands, thighs, arms, and face.

Day 4: The joint pain is less severe. I can walk today. Still feel pain in my fingers, particularly index and thumbs. My wrists, toes, feet, and knees hurt. Jaw glands are swollen. Worst part of today is the incredible itchiness of this rash, which is most pronounced all over my #thickthighs and hands.

Treatments:
Ayuvardic medicine recommends drinking raw coconut water, eating raw carrots, chewing on basil and tulsi leaves, applying a paste with chili powder on the most painful joint sites.

This is a good time to consume your favorite anti-inflammatory foods, such as ginger, turmeric, and cayenne pepper.

Avoid any foods that cause inflammation, such as gluten and meat to speed up recovery.

Note:
There is no vaccine for this virus (not that I would’ve taken it, anyways.)

To prevent spreading it, avoid getting bitten by mosquitos during the first 10 days of developing symptoms. I have basically quarantined myself and wear long sleeves and pants when I must leave the house.

PLEASE NOTE: Chikungunya does NOT spread via breast milk. Please continue to #breastfeed your child to boost their immune system.

@nu_start is an alumn from Rd 1 if Mommy Fit (organicmelinda.com). She was struggling with accountability and finding the time and space to exercise, so we are working together in private 1 to 1 sessions, 3x a week to help her reach her fitness goals. I am very proud of her for taking this step towards living a healthier life for herself and her beautiful daughter.

#Progress - #11weeks out

It was really hard for me to take pics. I actually have been hesitating to do so because my progress was stalled for various reasons.

1. I have a bad reaction whenever I eat #soy even if it is #organic. As a #vegan #bodybuilder, soy was the easiest way to get my #macros in order but it messed with my body.

2. I gained 4 lbs in 3 weeks due to the soy and I am #bloated.

3. My abs were way more cut 4 weeks ago.

4. Injured my knee and have barely been able to workout for 2 weeks.

For these reasons, I legitimately fell off the wheel and am nowhere where I need to be to be comp ready. But this is why I never ascribe to the hashtag #noexcuses. Life happens and you have to adjust.

My amazing Competition Coach Lori at @allnaturalhealthandfitness changed my meal plan and made it #soyfree. And, I need to track my progress. I also want to demystify vegan comp prepping.

I have been vegan for 15-16 years. I became #vegetarian about 20-21 years ago at age 9-10.

I love having a #plantbased #diet and living #meatfree.

I love seeing what my body can do.

So here is to being #real.

In 11 weeks, my body will be transformed.

It is one day at a time with #hardwork, #determination, #healthy #eating and #exercise.

Let’s get it, #fitfam!
